Let me put a disclaimer out there that this is not your typical rags-to-riches type of story. I was born into a middle-class family in a small town in Western Nigeria, and it shaped my journey in remarkable ways.
As I approached my high school graduation in 2005, my family faced financial hardships when my dad's car dealership business had to shut down due to competition and poor management. Witnessing our struggles, I felt deeply motivated to take action. This led me to venture into my first online business, where I provided market research services to companies through online surveys. This was two decades ago.
As a bright and eager teenager, I secured admission to the country's top university in 2005, right after completing high school. This early exposure to the internet allowed me to explore various online business models, including information product marketing, affiliate marketing, blogging, and general marketing practices. Armed with this newfound knowledge, I began selling digital products online to support myself and pay for my education.
As I approached my college graduation in 2009, my focus shifted towards content management systems like Drupal, WordPress, and Joomla, ultimately leading me into the world of web programming. I honed my skills in HTML, CSS, and dabbled in JavaScript and PHP. Freelancing first became my avenue for growth, working with individuals and agencies while also leveraging platforms such as Fiverr. During this time, I also gained experience in developing chatbots and creating online courses on Udemy.
Despite my continuous creation of digital products over the years — online courses, ebooks, chatbots, WordPress themes, plugins, and more — I often battled with imposter syndrome, believing that my products were never good enough.
However, everything changed in 2018 when I developed a small WordPress plugin called Group Promoter. This plugin helped Facebook group owners increase their group sign-ups by simply adding a small piece of code to their websites. To my surprise, users of the plugin began upgrading to the paid plan. It was a turning point.
It was during this time that Symalite was born. As revenue grew, I expanded my product portfolio, eventually garnering thousands of weekly active users within two years. One of my notable creations was Group Leads, a Chrome extension that solved my own list-building challenges within my Chatbot Facebook group.
Through my software solutions, I've had the privilege of helping countless customers overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Witnessing their successes has been incredibly fulfilling and has fueled my passion for innovation.
Within a span of four years, Symalite transformed from a one-person endeavor to a global team comprising twenty-one full-time employees and six contractors spread out in different countries. Together, we are dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions and empowering businesses across various industries.
My journey has been unconventional, driven by a determination to overcome obstacles and make a meaningful impact. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and look forward to helping more people realize their software dreams.
